Programme Confirmed for WPOMS 2022!

A fantastic agenda has been confirmed for this years annual conference! - a much needed opportunity for POM enthusiasts to catch up, get up to date with POM news and share experiences from the past two years. Perioperative medicine has never been so topical and this years conference is looking to be a great day out!

This year we have another fantastic line up of speakers and POM workshops, including the one and only Mr Motivator himself! He will be joining Dr John Whittle from University College London to talk about prehabilitation! In addition, we are really excited to welcome the experts in Perioperative Medicine for the Older Person - Dr Jugdeep Dhesi and Dr Jude Partridge! Topics and speakers include:

  • The role of prehabilitation in Perioperative Medicine - Dr John Whittle (POM Consultant, UCLH) and Mr Motivator!

  • Setting up a prehabilitation service in Wales - Dr Rhidian Jones (Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend)

  • Perioperative medicine for older people having surgery (POPS) - Dr Jugdeep Dhesi & Dr Jude Partridge (Consultant Physicians, St Guy’s and Thomas’)

  • Introduction of a Welsh PACU education programme across - Ms Carolina Britton (Specialist Nurse, UCLH)

  • An update of the most recent perioperative evidence - Dr Tony Funnell (POW, Bridgend)

  • Education updates and how POM has been affected by the new RCOA curriculum

A brilliant venue with the chance to take part in small group, interactive workshops in the afternoon. You can choose from:

A: Introduction to CPET. Live demonstration of CPET machine followed by an introduction of interpretation of CPET results.

B: Shared Decision Making and PROMS. A workshop exploring the role of Shared Decision Making in Perioperative Medicine - Outlining what SDM is, how it applies in the perioperative period and the challenges we face as perioperative clinicians.

C: Preoperative Anaemia Services - Who? Why? When? And How? An opportunity to share pathways, challenges and solutions regarding preoperative anaemia management in Wales.

D: Perioperative medicine for the older person - setting up a POPS service. An opportunity to get advice on the challenges and share experiences involved with setting up a service and how we can improve our care of the elderly patient during surgery.
